8.\u00a0Functional units of information, such as books or television programs, always fit the needs of individuals<\/em>. Information systems as libraries or broadcasters define themselves in terms of their units of storage or production: in the case of the libraries, these are books, journals, audiovisual materials, or websites; in the case of the broadcasters, it is programs, ads, or public service announcements. But the “functional units” of the individual are not often these things; rather, they are responses, solutions, instructions, ideas, friendships, and so forth. Thus, client requests for help, action, or resources tend to be reinterpreted by institutions as information needs that can be fulfilled with the units that they provide: books, programs, and the like. The client cannot always effectively use these units of information.<\/p>\n

Isso porque a busca por alguma resposta nem sempre ser\u00e1 encontrada em fontes\u00a0documentais, mas tamb\u00e9m em fontes pessoais, j\u00e1 que as\u00a0respostas, solu\u00e7\u00f5es, instru\u00e7\u00f5es, ideias e, claro, amizades, podem ser conseguidas apenas atrav\u00e9s do contato humano, e n\u00e3o pela frieza de\u00a0documentos impressos ou eletr\u00f4nicos.<\/p>\n

Neste caso, vale lembrar que a famosa entrevista com o usu\u00e1rio tem como objetivo identificar realmente sua necessidade de informa\u00e7\u00e3o, pois se ele recorre \u00e0 uma institui\u00e7\u00e3o, o que ela pode oficialmente lhe fornecer s\u00e3o as unidades funcionais de informa\u00e7\u00e3o que oferece, sejam livros, revistas, propagandas,\u00a0dentre outros.\u00a0Por\u00e9m, ressalta-se que essas unidades nem sempre s\u00e3o usadas\u00a0de forma eficiente pelo usu\u00e1rio,\u00a0o que pode ser provocado por v\u00e1rios aspectos, desde ele n\u00e3o saber exatamente o que quer at\u00e9 por alguma dificuldade de manuseio ou acesso \u00e0 unidade funcional de informa\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n
